IRS Individual E -File Start Date

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has announced in IR -2025-08 the tax filing season will begin accepting and processing

• The 2024 individual returns on January 27, 2025.
• The 2024 business returns on January 15, 2025.
• The 2025 Individual filing deadline is April 15, 2025.

IRS 2025 Enhancements

Since last tax season, the improvements include more access to tax account information from text and voice virtual assistants, expanded features on the IRS Individual Online Account, more access to dozens of tax forms through cell phones and tablets, and expanded alerts for scams and schemes that threaten taxpayers.

The IRS has enhanced its services this year, including better access to tax account information via virtual assistants, expanded features on the IRS Online Account, and greater access to forms via mobile devices. Additionally, taxpayers will receive more alerts about potential scams.

The IRS is also increasing in-person support at Taxpayer Assistance Centers and aims for a service level of up to 85% on taxpayer phone lines. Over 140 million individual tax returns are expected, with over half likely filed with the help of tax professionals. The IRS encourages taxpayers to use a trusted tax pro to avoid scams.
